MARLOW MEETS AMY JOHNSTON

MARLOW MEETS AMY JOHNSTON
Meet Amy Frances Johnston, the Central Saint Martins graduate and textile designer who created the set for our SS17 campaign shoot.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE OF WORK?
Bright, fun, childlike and humorous!
WHAT HAVE YOU BEEN UP TO SINCE YOU GRADUATED FROM CENTRAL SAINT MARTINS?
Like most design graduates, I completed internships with design houses/designers and trend magazines. It took around a year to figure out what I was doing. Right now I’m loving interiors and styling and wish to explore that more with my work. I work freelance and I find it’s a fantastic way to meet other designers and companies and see how they work.

DESCRIBE YOUR PROCESS?
I don’t really have a strict process. I draw, paint and collage a lot. I love paper. I’m a bit obsessed so perhaps that’s why I’m beginning to print wallpaper. Results can be a happy accident but then again I am a huge list maker and everything must be ticked off, my diary is also pretty perfect so I guess there still is a huge element of organization. I basically create something until I reach the point of personal satisfaction.
WHAT DO YOU LISTEN TO WHILST IN THE STUDIO?
A lot of magic fm. Marlene Dietrich if I’m feeling dark and sassy.
WHAT DO YOU COLLECT?
Postcards. I always plan on writing my friends and sending them but I become more like gollum with the ring and keep them for myself.
WHERE DO YOU GO TO BE INSPIRED?
Out of London.
WHAT IS YOUR LIFE PHILOSOPHY?

'Never Say Never' - Justin Beiber
FAVOURITE COLOUR?
This is difficult. I love colour combinations;
Blue and orange – blorange
Green and pink
Yellow and red
