HOW HAS YOUR BACKGROUND INFLUENCED WHO YOU ARE TODAY?
I grew up surrounded by strong, noisy, assertive women, both at home and at school, along with men who never questioned a woman’s right to be that way. That gives you a confidence – it teaches you to be self-assured, to fight for what you want, to never doubt that you deserve a seat at the table. I feel really fortunate to be equipped with that – so many women start off on the back foot because they don’t have that privilege.

WHO DO YOU MOST ADMIRE AND WHY?
My two idols are Victoria Coren-Mitchell and Claudia Winkleman. They’re both multi-faceted women – the former a superstar poker player, journalist and tv host, the latter a radio and tv personality with weighty journalistic credentials – who are funny, bright, cool and still care what they look like and how they dress. When I was growing up, women in the public eye fell into the smart, glamorous and serious camp – news anchors, for example – or they were into fashion and looked amazing but weren’t taken seriously. Both of these women have paved the way for British women to be both.

WHAT DOES SELF-LOVE MEAN TO YOU?
I think it means giving yourself a break. We’re all so pre-conditioned to want to be perfect at all times; we want to be the best dressed, the thinnest, the most well-travelled, well-read with the best interiors taste, which is just an impossible standard. Self-love is coming to terms with the fact there’ll always be someone who can beat you in any of those categories – once you’ve realised that, you start appreciating what you are, instead of what you’re not.

WHAT DO YOU LIVE BY?
Trust the process. My husband says it to me all the time – I’m doing my best to put it into practice.

WHEN DO YOU FEEL MOST EMPOWERED?
When I’m successfully juggling a busy work schedule. Some weeks I’m tied to my desk, but it’s the time I spend managing a roster of tasks and responsibilities where I feel the most empowered and energised – when I’m running from hosting a show on YouTube or a podcast to a meeting about business strategy to a shoot with an influencer to a press dinner. There’s obviously a tipping point, but when all the different facts of my career are perfectly balanced, I feel like I can do anything.

WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT YOUR ROLE AS FASHION EDITOR AT SHEERLUXE.COM?
The aforementioned variety is my favourite thing; working somewhere with so many media platforms keeps things interesting. I also love the opportunities you get at an independent publication; the attitude is nearly always ‘try it once’. There’s no long, bureaucratic chain of people to push an idea through; we’re all working it out together one day at a time, which is so exciting, and allows you to really push the boundaries of what it means to be a magazine these days, which is necessary for survival in this industry.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR PERSONAL STYLE?
I’m a chameleon. I don’t have any set rules – some days I wear big vintage sweatshirts with oversized jeans, other days I’m in a pink suit. But there’s always a bit of androgyny thrown into my outfits, and I have an army of blazers which are a real staple for me.

WHERE DO YOU FIND STYLE INSPIRATION?
I prefer Pinterest to Instagram – it’s far less naval-gazing and competitive which means you get better fashion content. If I’m looking for interesting ways to mix up my wardrobe, that’s where I go. However, like everyone, I spend a lot of time on the gram – I just make sure to follow cool, original girls with a point of difference. No monochrome mood boards for me.

WHAT IS ONE FASHION TREND YOU REGRET TRYING?
You should never have fashion regrets, because you probably loved it at the time. But looking back, stripy fingerless gloves worn with a short-sleeve top to a party were probably a real low.
